The Karl-May Festival

Karl-May-Festival
Bad Segeberg is known beyond the borders of Schleswig-Holstein and Germany for the Karl-May Festival which enchants 250,000 visitors every year and takes them to the world of the Red Indians and the Wild West. 7500 seats at the theatre invite you to a special kind of adventure. Accompany Winnetou and Old Shatterhand on their adventures in the wide prairie in front of the breathtaking setting of the Kalkberg, one of Europe’s most beautiful open air theatres.

The Indian Village and the Karl-May express

[Absatz]

Indian village
Right next to the open air theatre is the Indian Village. Painted tipis, totem poles, a dancing site and a fireplace are situated in front of the Nebraska house, where an exhibition displays the life of the Native Americans in the prairie of the Mid West, in the woods, at the Great Lakes and in the perennial ice.
The exhibition at the Karl-May house grants you "a peep behind the scenes" of the festival. Among other things, you can see pictures of past performances and a documentation of the artistic posters of the festival.

Karl-May-City-Express
You can also explore the old town centre of Bad Segeberg with the Karl-May express, a small western train – guided by the local sheriff, of course.
